3 REASONS WHY TORONTO IS A GREAT PLACE TO GROW YOUR EXPERTISE IN WEB3

Professional Development

In order to be on the cutting edge of your field, no matter what your field is, it’s going to be necessary to have a bit of knowledge about Web3. Seen as the next generation of the World Wide Web, Web3 will involve the use of blockchains, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs.

The goal of this new internet is to give users ownership over their data again. It’s an exciting future, and anyone who wants to be a part of that future is going to need to focus a certain amount of their learning towards Web3 and how it will affect their work.

It will be crucial for professionals of all types to take this very seriously over the next few years, and it might be a wise move for you to head to Toronto as you begin your Web3 learning journey.

It doesn’t hurt that Toronto is a great place to live and explore. There’s a variety of delicious restaurants to try, a ton of different parks and trails to check out, and a unique live music & thriving nightlife scene.

Beyond the fun that Toronto has to offer, it is also specifically a good place for expanding your knowledge and expertise in Web3. Let’s take a look at the top three reasons why this is the case.

The Tech Ecosystem is Thriving

Toronto has a bustling network of startups, tech companies, and innovation hubs, so you can bet that if you’re looking to network with people about Web3, you’ll have plenty of options. It’s also pretty likely that you’ll easily be able to find people to learn from and collaborate with. Smaller gatherings and learning opportunities, of course, exist throughout the year, but it’s important to note that Toronto also hosts a bunch of large conferences like Web3 Toronto back in March, The Web3 Toronto Conference that just took place in August, and the Blockchain Futurist Conference, also going on annually in August. The Blockchain Futurist Conference just celebrated its fifth year in the city as well, and boasts returning crowds of over 6,000 people each year! It’s a good sign for people who are looking to learn about Web3. People who want to learn with you and talk about the blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs will not be hard to find!

The Education is Top-Notch

Toronto is home to a few universities that are at the top of the tech game. The University of Toronto and The Toronto Metropolitan University are both known for their strong computer science and engineering programs. To take it back to networking for just a second, this is going to ensure that a lot of forward-thinking, future-focused students are hanging around the city for you to bounce ideas off of. But also, you may be able to involve yourself with some student-run organizations that cater to these particular Web3 interests.

For example, U of T has the Web 3 Student Group (W3B), which is a club that focuses on helping people enter the Web3 space, build skills, and connect and network with people. The Toronto Metropolitan University, meanwhile, offers something called the BTRC Program, which stands for Blockchain Technology Review Committee. It’s a consultation program that connects academic experts in the blockchain field with Canadian businesses who are working on projects involving the blockchain. The goal is to provide support and advice to these companies on how to best involve the blockchain for their particular product or plan.

Not to be left out, York University has founded blockchain.lab. York is located in the northern part of the city, but it sounds like it’d be worth the commute to meet with the people who are involved with this program. They’re researching the ways to deliver the blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and Web3 to businesses and customers, and they’ve taken on projects with many big clients like the Bank of Canada and the United Nations.

Clearly, if you’re hanging around the area of any of these three universities, you’ll have plenty of people to pick the brains of. Have fun making some new friends as you grow your knowledge and skills in the world of Web3!

The City is Diverse and Inclusive

Toronto has a rich cultural tapestry and an inclusive nature in general, and you can really see how this would lend itself to a collaborative Web3 community. Innovation comes from creativity, and creativity is often sparked when diverse ingredients unexpectedly work together. If you make it a goal to engage with professionals from different backgrounds & who work in different fields, the Web3 breakthroughs could be right at your fingertips before you know it. Toronto is an ideal place to follow through on such a goal. It’s a great place to meet all sorts of people who are interested in shaping the future of the decentralized web, and your knowledge will grow so quickly as a result of meeting these people.

The best thing to remember about Web3 is that it’s still a relatively new concept for a lot of people. Most have a fairly tenuous grasp on what is meant by blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs, and even less of a grasp on what these technologies can do for the world of business (or even their own business, specifically!) You’ll be doing yourself a big favor if you can get ahead in this world, and it might be best to just immerse yourself in all the Web3 knowledge you can for a while. For this reason, an extended stay in Toronto may be exactly what you need to expand your professional horizons. The people you’ll meet through the tech businesses and universities could be the ones who push you over the top in your career, and there’s a good chance that the diverse nature of the city will provide you with some great opportunities…and quite a lot of fun, too!
